EVMA September 2013 Newsletter

As mentioned during last month’s meeting we will not have a meeting during September due to all the events that are scheduled for the month. We hope everyone has had a great time getting some rides in during August as the temperatures have been very welcoming for this time of year in our area. Our next meeting will be held at Freedom Park on Saturday, October 5th at noon.

September group rides:

Saturdays 9:00 am, York River State Park,

Sundays 9:00 am, Freedom Park,

Wednesdays 6:00 pm, Indian River Park

During the end of August, local scout Noah Miller completed the new 46 foot extension of bridge #3 on trail A at Freedom Park and moved bridge #5 over as well as adding an 8 foot extension to the end of the bridge. This was a well earned “Eagle Badge” which totaled 96.5 hours of labor completed by members of his scout group and several EVMA volunteers. Thanks to all who participated!

We also want to thank all of our members who lent a hand on September 7th repairing the trails at Freedom Park in preparation for Dirtfest. We were able to get it ready for our biggest event of the year at the park.

More trail work has been completed at New Quarter Park, as well, to cut back brush, downed trees and to help control erosion. Please stay off of wet trails so that our efforts are not wasted.

Our next scheduled trail work day is:

York River State Park: National Public Lands Day September 28th 9am, York River State Park. Park and meet in the maintenance area on the right of the driveway. Come help us with the new trail at York River State Park. We will be working on a 1 mile section of the John Blair Trail that has great views of the York River. Bring work gloves and water. Lunch will be served when work is done.
