Events this weekend

• August 6th 9am Freedom Park: Group rides, Dirt Divas & Beginner Rides. EVMA Membership Meeting & lunch at noon at the Interpretive Center. Regular & vegetarian lunch options will be provided (bring a few buck to donate towards food costs). Fell like cooking (or shopping)? Bring a dessert to share!

Call for Trail Captain at Indian River  - IRP is nearly impossible to manage in a way that meets our trail building and maintenance standards, however, we remain committed to keeping trail access open, because it is the only legal mountain bike trail on the South side. South siders, we need your help! Contact Jim Irby to volunteer as a trail captain or in another capacity. Better yet, join us at the meeting this weekend to discuss what you'd like to help out with!

Call for Ride Leaders - You need not be an expert rider to be a ride leader! Please help out and volunteer to lead a ride - pick your favorite park and your favorite trail, and contact ride coordinator, Penny Rich, to add it to the ride calendar!

Opportunities for Young Riders

• Colonial Revolution middle school and high school mountain bike team has started practice for the Fall NICA league race series. Interested middle and high school students can see more information at http://www.colonialrevolution.com/ and should contact Head Coach, Mike Lang for information on practice dates and how to join.
• • Business Owners - Colonial Revolution is in need of sponsors! To play a part in building a nationwide scholastic mountain biking league starting in your own community, contact Mike Lang at the link above.

• Freedom Park Trails are Open and should remain open through Saturday. Sunday's weather forecast may muddy things up a bit, so call before you ride!

Kudos

• A big "Thank You!" to the small group of volunteers who came out for the New Quarter Park Trail Work Day -  The raised trail has been removed, and any salvagable wood has been saved for future use.  If this was a moment of shock and awe for you, please join us at the EVMA Membership Meetings, where we discuss the pros and cons of these sorts of decisions months before taking action.

• Sunday, April 24th New Quarter Park 9am EVMA Group Ride and Cook out - come ride at 9am, eat around noon, and cheer the kids on in the youth race! Thanks & Kudos

• Thank you to all of the volunteers who have helped out with recent projects at Freedom Park, New Quarter Park, Harwood Mills, Wahrani and the pump track at York River State Park! Anyone who rides in these parks owes a trail volunteer a beer, and maybe a hug, but try starting with a just a beer and see how it goes. ;-)
  
• Kudos to all of the Wednesdays on your Wheels race volunteers who were awarded an Outstanding Volunteer Award from York County for their fantastic work in running this fun and safe mountain bike race series for kids. Come out after the BBQ this Sunday to appreciate just how awsome this event is!

Trails

Harwood Mill -  The reroutes on Trail B are mostly complete. The trail is back to being one

way. Mike Gross is still working on signage. As the trail packs in, some trimming or trail work

may be necessary. Mike continues to work with Newport News Parks to plan on a connector

from B to C.

Freedom Park – New feature on C loop is complete. May 14^th Single Track Maniac – Trail A closed until 10am, Trails D and E closed all day. Early AM ride to clear trail for runners.

New Quarter – Meeting with Parks director went well. Plans to replace mile markers with carsonite signs, mark Emergency exits and TTFs. Molly would like to have raised trail removed. The park is not manned during the week and YC feels the liability is too great. Plans for removal are being made. The park can have help with removal. The county can assist with removal. If Freedom is closed, please do not ride New Quarter, it will be just as wet.

Wahrani – April 9^th workday to replace bridges in the low section on A loop. Mike Benton is working on bridges. Also, working on climb from the long skinny bridge.

York River SP – Marl Ravine is returned to normal direction. Response was positive on reversal. April 16^th Kirk and FOYRSP are continuing work on pump track. Outer loop is coming along.

Indian River – Chesapeake holds monthly parks meeting. Next is April 7^th. Several members planning on attending. They sent a new volunteer agreement and volunteer waiver.

Upper Co – Closed.

May 14^th – Single Track Maniac Trail Run –  Trail A will be closed until about 10:30 and Trails D and E will be closed most of the day. Group will ride early to clear the trails. First, Trail A backwards then D and E.

May 27^th – 29^th – Stokesville Trail Fest – Many members are going.
