    EVENTS COMING UP

    December 29th Solstice Ride- Join EVMA to celebrate the shortest day of the year (or close to it anyway).  The ride will be from 4-6 pm.  Lights are required and you must ride with a partner.  Pot luck dinner will follow in the meeting room of the interpretive center.  Please bring a main course, side dish, salad, appetizer or dessert to share.  There is a sign-up sheet on the event page for the potluck.  Also, you may bring an adult beverage to enjoy at the event.

    January 1st, 2019 – First Day Hike, Stroll, Bike, etc. at Virginia State Parks.  Get out and enjoy our beautiful state parks (or kick off those New Year’s resolutions).  More info at http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/blog/virginia-state-parks-first-day-hikes-2019.

    Night Rides Tuesday and Thursday evenings – Night rides are on Tuesdays at Harwood’s Mill and Thursdays at Freedom Park.   The group will leave at 6 pm sharp so please arrive by 5:45 pm.  Every rider must be out of the park by 8 pm.

    Rides at New Quarter Park are cancelled for now due to a change in insurance requirements.  We are working to resolve this.

    Please remember, stay with the group.  No single riders at night.  Dress for the weather.  Two lights are recommended for all riders.  All riders must sign in and parking passes are required at some parks.  Be safe and have fun!

    The Solstice Ride and Party originally scheduled for December 16th will now be held on Saturday, December 29th.  The ride will start at 4pm and the potluck dinner will begin afterward (around 6 or 6:30 pm).  BYOB license has been approved for that day.  Please change your calendar and plan to attend!

    We are expecting more rain on Saturday.  Keep an eye on the EVMA Chatter page for possible ride location change.

    OTHER NOTES

    Wet Trails- Due to the amount of rain and snow our trails saw this past weekend, many of the trails are closed.  Even if trails are not officially closed, please use good judgement when deciding to ride or not.  Don’t ride wet trails.  There are also a lot of trees down on the trails so please report these to trails@evma.org.  Include the trail name, mile marker and a picture if possible.

    December 1 – Trail work day at Freedom Park starting at 9 am.  Mark your calendars and plan to come out and help.  There are a few small projects, including some clearing, fixing a bridge and building some re-routes that will not take long if we have plenty of help.  More info at https://www.facebook.com/events/176383219982226/.  If you have a battery-operated drill, please bring it along to help work on the bridge.  Also, bring your bike as some members may need to ride out to the work area, or stay for a ride afterward.

    Trail work will be followed by lunch and a brief meeting at noon.  If you can bring a dish to help with lunch, please contact Melanie at melanie_storrs@yahoo.com.

    EVENTS COMING UP

    Saturday, November 3 – Group ride and Dirt Divas starting at 9 am at Freedom Park.  EVMA monthly meeting will be at noon in the meeting room.  Lunch will not be provided so bring something if needed.  We are asking for club members that are experienced trail builders to come out and help vote on what tools will be purchased with the REI grant money.  Please plan to attend.

    Coming Soon – Night rides will start after the clocks turn back, so start digging out and charging up your lights.  We can only ride in parks where we have permission and any other night riding is considered trespassing.  All night rides will have at least 2 people, everyone will sign in and stick together as a group.  More details coming soon.

    EVENTS COMING UP

    Trail work day this Saturday – There will be 2 crews doing trail work this weekend both starting at 9 am to clean up storm damage.  One crew will be at New Quarter Park and the other at York River State Park.  Tools will be provided.  Bring gloves, water, and your bike as some may need to ride in to the work area.

    Tidewater Challenge – October 27th and 28th.  Register at  https://www.bikereg.com/31st-annual-tidewater-mountain-bike-challenge.

    EVENTS COMING UP

    Fall trip to Douthat – September 21-23.  That area of the state is expecting to get a lot of rain so members of the club will be checking with the park a few days before and decide if the trip should be cancelled.  If the park is open, some members may still go even if the trails are closed.  More information to come soon.

    Trail Work Cancelled – The Eagle Scout project at Wahrani scheduled for this Saturday has been cancelled due to the weather. We will release details of the rescheduled event once we have them.

    OTHER NOTES

    Hurricane and trails – We are expecting a lot of wind and rain in the next week.  When the weather clears, please be sure to pay attention to park closures and don’t ride on really wet trails.   When you can ride, do your part to pick up branches and small trees that fall on the trails.  If you come across large trees, report them on EVMA chatter or email trails@evma.org.  Be sure to include trail name, the closest mile marker and provide a picture if you can.
