    EVENTS COMING UP

    August 4 – Group ride, lunch and meeting at York River State Park starting at 9am.  Lunch will be BBQ chicken.  Please bring a salad, side, fruit or dessert to share.  Hope to see you there.

    Mark your calendars – September 21-23, Fall Douthat Trip. The club will be reserving several sites for club members to tent camp. If you have an RV, please make your own reservation. There are tentative plans for a trip to Carvins Cove or Snowshoe on Friday. Registration coming soon!

    OTHER NOTES

    Trails – Thank you to everyone who spent time clearing trails after our bouts of crazy summer weather.  Don’t forget to report downed trees or other big maintenance issues on EVMA chatter.

    Grant – EVMA recently received a grant from REI to purchase new tools/equipment.  The board is currently making some decisions on how to properly spend the money.

    Colonial Revolution Team – Have a middle or high school-aged child who could be a better rider than you?  Consider involving him or her on the Colonial Revolution Youth Mountain Bike Team.  Visit www.colonialrevolutionmtb.org for more details.

    Volunteers Still Needed – Thank you to everyone who has stepped up to serve as board members.  We are still looking for ride leaders and people to help with various events.  Please contact Mike Benton at president@evma.org if you can help in any way.

    EVENTS COMING UP

    Saturday,  June 30th Group ride at Pocahontas State Park.  Meet the group at the parking lot near the pool at 9:30.  We will ride Blueberry Hill and the new trails, then for those who still have energy, we can tackle the Lakeview trails.  These are very fun trails and definitely worth the drive.  Hope to see you there.

    EVMA/Weekend on Your Wheels Fundraiser – Thank you to everyone who donated to the Weekend on Your Wheels fundraiser. We met our goal and Crystal and Beav put on an excellent end of season party.

    Bike Shops - We would to thank these area bike shops for supporting the Weekend on Your Wheels series:  BikeBeat, Bikes Unlimited, Conte's Bike Shop, Jimmy'z Mobile Bike Repair, Red Barn Bicycles, and Village Bicycles. Please support your local bike shop as they support us.

    EVENTS COMING UP

    June 2, 2018 – Group ride at 9am at York River State Park followed by lunch and brief meeting at noon at one of the picnic shelters.  Thank you, Penny, for taking care of burgers and dogs with fixings, pasta and potato salads and baked beans.  Melanie will bring dessert.  Thank you to anyone who can bring a side dish or appetizer.  One major topic of discussion will be planning our fall trip.  Please plan to attend and check out the Facebook event on the Chatter page.

    June 3, 2018 – Youth bike race at New Quarter Park.  Registration is from 12:30 to 1pm; races start at 1:30pm.  Bring out your children to join in the fun or just come out to cheer on these future racers. 

    The races will be followed by an awards ceremony and luncheon. Crystal will need a little help tallying up the finals points, and some help setting up the awards ceremony.  If you can help, please contact her at bviguana@aol.com.  Check out Weekend on Your Wheels on Facebook and sign up for a dish to help make the luncheon a success.

    OTHER NOTES

    Thank you - Thanks to everyone who came out Saturday to Freedom Park to do trail work.  Trail A downhill reroute completed and Trail E reopened. All downed trees removed. Trails will be soft where it crosses fire line, but otherwise in good condition.

    Wet trails – The weather man is predicting a very wet week for us.  If you plan to ride, check with your local park to ensure trails are open.

    EVMA/Weekend on Your Wheels Fundraiser - For the last few years EVMA has contributed to the awards luncheon and would like to raise $500 for the season end celebration.  We have had several generous donations but need just a little more.   If you would like to help, you can go to evma.org and click donate.     May 12, 2018 - Please join us for a trail work day at Freedom Park.  Meet in the parking lot by 9:00 AM and we’ll try to be done around noon.  Bring work gloves and water and prepare to ride into the worksite.  We’ll provide the tools and work on an eroded, bumpy section, doing a small re-route and possibly some dirt moving to repair the trail and divert water flow.  If you ride and enjoy the trails please consider pitching in to help maintain them.  Never attended a work day before?  No problem – just show up and we’ll walk you through it.  Details and RSVP on the Facebook Chatter page.

    EVENTS COMING UP

    May 5, 2018 – Group ride and Dirt Divas ride at 9am at York River State Park (the last email said Freedom Park – that was incorrect) followed by monthly meeting and lunch at one of the shelters (not sure exactly which one yet). 

    Penny needs some help with food for lunch.  It’s Cinco de Mayo so we are having a Mexican-themed lunch.  Check out Facebook and sign up to bring something.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Crystal Dawn Richardson and Bryan Findley have done a tremendous job organizing the race.

    EVENTS COMING UP

    April 26-29, 2018 – It’s not too late . . . EVMA spring trip to the Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake in Pennsylvania.  The group will stay at the group site in the Meadow Camp at Seven Points.  Registration is still open at www.evma.org.  Cost is $45 per camper in a tent, $55 per camper in an RV. Please also register as a non-camper if you plan to attend but stay elsewhere.  We usually plan on group potluck dinners on Friday and Saturday nights. 

    Thank you to Justin Hlavin and Eric Van Dusen for coordinating this trip.

    EVENTS COMING UP

    April 14th - Freedom Park Trail, April 14th JCC will be holding the Single Track Maniac 50K Run.  Trails A and B will be closed until 10 am and D and E will be closed the entire day.  Runners will be on the main entrance road and in the parking areas as the course travels to the entrance of the Park.  Just be aware if you plan to ride there.

    April 14th Veteran recognition day at York River State park.  Bike ride at 9am and a picnic at noon.  There will be prizes.  Donations support the Wounded Warrior Project.  Please plan to attend.

    April 16th – EVMA Board and Member meeting and JCC Rec Center, Room B, 5301 Longhill Road in Williamsburg.  The meeting will start with administrative announcements followed by an open discussion on upcoming events and trail work.  Please plan to attend.

    April 22nd Next youth bike race at New Quarter Park, 1:30 pm.
