EVMA hosts Beginners Rides at Freedom Park open to the public. If you’re new to mountain biking, know somebody who is, or just want a very chill ride and get some pointers or learn your way around Freedom Park, join us! Kids are welcome (with a parent or responsible adult riding with them!).

Meet by 9:30 AM in the small parking lot by the log cabins & Bunny Trail.  We'll adjust the ride depending on who shows up with what skill/experience level, but will start on the Bunny Trail, then ride short parts of Trail C (no jumps/drops/features!) using the emergency access points.

    • We'll be spreading dirt and gravel (provided by Newport News) on the trail where it enters the park from the parking area.
    • Shovels and rakes will be helpful, wagons or wheelbarrows too!
    • Bring gloves, hydration, and bug spray!

Join EVMA member Jan Wozniak every* Tuesday at 5:30 PM at Marshview Park for a group ride. Meet at the dog park parking lot. It’s more fun to ride with others!

*Always check evma.org to make sure the ride’s still on due to weather, etc. If it’s raining Tuesday, Jan might change it to Thursday.  UNLESS THIS NOTICE SAYS OPTHERWISE, OR IF IT'S CLEARLY RAINING OUT, ASSUME THAT THE READ IS ON.

If you have any questions or want more info, EVMA members can reply to the most recent weekly e-mail.  Non-EVMA members can join us and get more info.

COMPLETED: April 29-May 3, 2026, Stokesville (Harrisonburg VA area): Some rock & gnar, some flow, some shuttling, plenty of climbing.  Get your own campsite or rental house.  (Some of us already have houses.)

Sept 10-13, 2026, Allegrippis Trails @ Raystown Lake, PA: Flowy for mountains, beginners to intermediates friendly (but still some climbing & some rocks). A great introduction to riding in the mountains. Get your own campsite or rental house.  (Campground: Seven Points Campground preferred; March 10 is reservation date opening; Ridge camp 1st choice, Meadow Camp 2nd.) or rental house.  Some of us have a rental house, and there are lots more nearby.

Oct 7-11, 2026, Pisgah/Dupont, NC: An epic destination!  Some flow, lots of rocky gnar, long descents after the requisite climbs to get there. Little to no shuttling so you'll have to earn the descents! E-bikes not permitted on most trails we’ll ride.  Get your own campsite or house.  Some of us already have rental houses.

Join us for some short punchy climbs that lead to quick, fun downhills, tabletops, etc.  Until we get our new signs out there (which have arrived and just need to be installed!), it's best to ride with somebody who knows the best route.

    9:30 AM start time.

Address: Wahrani Nature Trail, 17485 Eltham Rd., Lanexa, VA.

Join us for about a 20-mile loop connecting multiple trails: Forest Hills, Buttermilk, Dogwood Dell, Northbank, Belle Isle, etc. If you’ve never been to these trails, here’s your chance for a guided tour. You’ll be surprised what great, technical trails there are right in the city! The weather looks fantastic! Meet by 10:00 AM at Forest Hill Park parking lot, at the intersection of W 42nd St & New Kent Ave. ***It’s on Friday and many of you have to work.  WE ARE DEFNITELY NOT (wink wink) asking you to skip work, or call in sick, or make up some fake excuse to come ride these great trails in ideal weather (which is way better than working). EVMA members: check your e-mail from April 1 around 9:10 PM for a work excuse guaranteed to work!

Group Ride, Saturday April 4, 10:00 AM @ Freedom Park to practice some features: Meet ride leader Wynn Yang in the big grass field at 10:00 AM to practice riding some Trail C features.  This is NOT a skills clinic, but a chance for riders who want to get better at some of Trail C's easy/medium features (jumps, drops, etc.) to practice together for encouragement & confidence.  We'll focus on the new Log Drop (easy 18" drop) and the first 2 Gap Jumps (not the 3rd big Ladder Gap), and depending on the group may try some other "Blue" features, but not "Black" features like Shotgun, Big Easy, or OCD.  Wynn took the 3.14.26 afternoon Advanced skills clinic and wants to hone his skills, but all are welcome even if you didn't take the clinic.  *Ride is weather dependent.
