    EVENTS COMING UP

    April 27th- 30th –  It’s finally here.  The spring trip to Raystown Lake in Pennsylvania.  If you haven’t signed up, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?   There are still some slots available so register TODAY at http://evma.org/event-2463118. 

    May 6th – Next EVMA gathering.  Group ride will be at York River State Park at 9am and possibly go to Alewerks afterwards for a beer.  We are trying to gather information about a food truck.  More information soon.

    June 3rd – EVMA gathering at Freedom Park.

    Volunteer Opportunities – EVMA needs a few volunteers.  If you are able to help, contact Jim Irby:

    • 1.       EVMA is looking for a host and ride leaders for the fall trip.
    • 2.       One or more volunteers are needed to represent EVMA at the Weekends on your Wheels races.
    • 3.       EVMA would like to host a kid’s ride (that is not a race) to get more children involved in mountain biking.  We need some volunteers to help organize this.
    • 4.       The club runs on volunteers.  EVMA always needs trail captains, ride leaders, board members, and club trip hosts. 

    Trail Work Challenge - Also, if you are out riding, take a few minutes to pick up fallen branches or cut back a few of those face slappers. EVMA President Jim challenges everyone to spend 10-15 minutes of a future bike ride doing a little trail work.  See the Chatter page for more information. Remember to report any downed trees to president@evma.org or post on Facebook.  Please include the park, trail, mile marker and a picture, if possible.  Please don’t do any leaf blowing or major trail modifications without permission.

    EVENTS COMING UP

    April 23rd – Group ride at New Quarter Park starting at 8:30 am.  Check Facebook for more information.  Go get some lunch then come back for the kid’s race.

    April 23rd – Weekend of Your Wheels kid’s race at New Quarter Park.  We had a great turnout at the first race and look forward to this weekend.  Register at 12:45 and races begin at 1:30.   Volunteers are needed to help with the race, as well as one or two club members to talk to attendees about EVMA. 

    April 27th- 30th – Wow!  Next weekend is the spring trip to Raystown Lake in Pennsylvania.  The cost will be $45 per tent/$55 per camper (food not included but we will be doing a potluck one night and Mexican night potluck another).     EVENTS COMING UP

    April 8th – Night ride at Beaverdam Park in Gloucester.  Meet at the park around 6:30 pm and ride is at 7 pm followed by a bonfire.  Donations are requested that will help fund a single track trail in the county.  Come out a have a good time while supporting a worthy cause.

    • 4.       A local cub scout pack has asked for a few volunteers to assist with a bike ride through Yorktown Battlefield on July 29th.  We will need help with basic mechanics and bike safety, and road guards along the ride.  It’s a long time from now, but if you have interest in helping, please contact Melanie Storrs.

    New EVMA Signs – Have you seen the new signs at some of the local parks?  These signs let the public know just who is responsible for building and maintaining the awesome trails.  Thank you to Mike Gross for getting the signs up at Harwoods Mill and New Quarter Park last week.  Signs will soon appear at Freedom Park.  Wahrani and YRSP are next on the list.

Tuesday at Harwoods Mill, Wednesday at New Quarter, Thursday at Freedom Park.  Rides start promptly at 6pm so be there at 5:45 to sign in.   All riders must have at least 2 lights of 750 lumens or greater.  Check Facebook chatter for up to date information and to sign up.

    March 11th – Trail workday at New Quarter Park.  Meet at 8:45 in the parking lot. Check out Facebook chatter for more information.  Bring your bike if you want to ride afterwards.

    March 11th – Night Ride at Beaverdam Park in Gloucester.  A rare opportunity.  This is a fundraiser for  future trail work.  Starts at 6pm at the overflow parking lot near the main entrance.  Five miles of trail will be clear and roots marked with neon paint.  It sounds like they will have ride leaders and ride in groups.  It is two-way trail so could be interesting.  You need to be off the trail by 8pm.  Bring your lights just like other EVMA night rides.  Bring cash or check to make a donation.

    Nike Park Trail – Justin Hlavin is working with Isle of Wight on the Nike Park Trail.  A few people expressed that they would be interested in seeing improvements to that trail.  If you are in that area, check it out.

    Trail Notice: After the high winds and storms from the last two weeks, there are several reports of trees down. Please ride with caution.

    Wahrani Nature Trail: Thank you to everyone who came out Feb 11th to work:  Steve Maxey, Mike Benton, Mike Gross, Harry Caraway, Jim Irby, Eric VanDusen, Joe Klingshirn, Kurt Bradley, Justin Hlavin, Wynnona Hlavin, and Annabelle. (Many apologies if we missed anyone).  Work completed included replacement of bridge on C loop, extension of bridge on A loop, and restoration of slalom on B.  This concludes most of the major work here for this spring. Next up New Quarter and Freedom.
